Social Program
Optional tours will be offered during and after the Congress, providing sightseeing opportunities for the participants. The programs include visits to famous tourist destinations in Kyoto and neighboring places such as Nara and Mount Hiei. Sightseeing programs in Kyoto will introduce the participants to traditional Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, some of which have been designated as World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Traditional Japanese beauty will be appreciated when they visit, for example, the Gold Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji), Ryoan-ji Temple, Kiyomizu Temple, Daikaku-ji Temple, and Kamigamo and Shimogamo Shrines. Visitors will be able to enjoy ancient Japanese Buddhist arts in those historical places, some of which are designated as national treasures.

There are a variety of traditional handicrafts in Kyoto. Restaurants are excellent including those of Japanese cuisine. Visitors can appreciate the traditional performing art, "Noh" theater, as well, presented by famous Noh artists.

The "Accompanying Persons' Program" offers an opportunity to experience Japanese traditional culture such as tea ceremony and Ikebana (flower arrangement). Included in the program is a session in which participants try traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

Nara, a city adjacent to Kyoto which was the capital of the nation in the ancient times before Kyoto, is a home of UNESCO World Heritage sites including Todaiji Temple and Horyuji Temple. In addition to short-distance tours in and around Kyoto, there are long-distance trips prepared in the social programs such as those destined to the Pearl Island Ise and Mt. Fuji.
